SOLITAIRE

SolitaireToday's Ship of the Day is the pipe laying vessel Solitaire (IMO: 7129049, Port of Registry: Panama). The Solitaire is the the largest pipelay vessel in the world with a pipe carrying capacity of 22000 t. The vessel is equipped with a full dynamic positioning system allowing the vessel to work most accurately in highly congested areas. The Solitaire is about 300 meters long (410 including the stinger), 40 meters wide and can accomodate up to 420 men. The Solitaire was built in 1972 as the bulk carrier Trentwood and was converted in 1999 to her current form. She is propelled by eight engines delivering a total of 51 mw of power.

The Solitaire arrived this morning at the Calandkanaal, Rotterdam. She will depart in about 48 hours.
